Background

Homeowners who opt to install rooftop solar are generally interested in how their system is performing, often on a minute-to-minute basis, and how they can optimise both their own energy use and any potential to save or even make money from their solar energy assets.

Aim

We wanted to create a system that would not only measure and clearly present the best analytics to customers but also allow them to easily understand where there may be greater efficiencies. At the same time, we wanted to create something that could be remotely updated, particularly as grid requirements changed, and not need additional components or even extra effort on the part of the homeowner.

Approach

We considered what could make an energy analytics and management system even better. Initially, we focused on the intelligence of the system itself, then its adaptability, and then ensured it was as simple as possible to use and get the most value from.

The high-level brief was to offer energy usage insights, remote update capabilities, load management, and smart grid functionality. It needed to connect to the cloud and seamlessly integrate with a home’s energy infrastructure.

Additionally, we decided to allow scope for commercial or industrial use, by making the monitors ‘stackable’.

We also thought it was important to make the system as simple as possible to install.

It needed to present analytics and corresponding insights on:

  • PV generation
  • energy consumption
  • PV export
  • savings and profits

Solution

SEAM – Solar Energy Analytics Management – consists of a SEAM Monitor, cloud, and app, connecting to your home solar system to provide energy usage insights, remote update capabilities, load management and more.

The SEAM interface offers complete control over your system, as you monitor generation, consumption, and export data.
